Thoughts from Daniel’s Den

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and for my article this month I wanted to muse on the meaning of this wonderful holiday. To do this, I will be using THANKSGIVING as an acronym. I trust that this will help as we pause to give thanks to God for his many blessings.

Thanksgiving Is . . .

T: To give thanks to God from whom all blessings flow.

H: Hope in a God that has been with us in the past and will continue to be

with us now and forever.

A: All come and gather around the table as friends and family sharing a feast

of joy.

N: Needy come as well and share their story with new friends in shelters,

church, and homes.

K: Keep the conversation light and lively, positive and praise-filled.

S: Say what you are thankful for around the thanksgiving table.

G: Gratitude makes our attitude one of thanks.

I: Invite someone home for the turkey feast.

V: Voice thanks for others in your life.

I: Interesting time of year when everyone celebrates no matter what creed,

religion, or ideology.

N: Notice how much time it takes to plan the meal with love.

G: God has blessed me with (name the blessing).

Thanksgiving is a national holiday that allows us to pause and reflect on God’s blessing. With the psalmist may we say, “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His loving-kindness is everlasting.” Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary…

(Psalm 107:1-2).

Have a blessed and joyous Thanksgiving,

Pastor Dan

Presbyterian Press

At The Presbyterian Church of Livingston, we know that inspiration opens hearts. An open heart is an open mind and an open mind is one that can practice tolerance, experience gratitude and feel the glory of God. It is our belief that God is present in all of us, but His active presence can only be felt through faith in Him. We are dedicated to the service of God and all his people, and our goal is to inspire you through the holiness of our dwelling and our services. We invite you to become a part of our growing congregation.

Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration
Thanksgiving is much more than just a festive occasion. It gives us time to pause and consider all the blessings God has bestowed upon us as a nation, and as individuals. Remember to thank Him for all His great abundance, goodness, love, grace, and mercy. And please don’t keep these blessings to yourself. Share them generously with others.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Joy

Promises Made      Promises Kept

Through the Christmas Joy Offering, your generosity provides assistance for those who have dedicated their lives to the service of the church, as well as racial and ethnic education and leadership development.

During the Advent season we reflect on the promise of salvation that God made to us – a promise kept with the birth of Jesus. Through this example we understand that while we may make promises in good faith, we must keep them in good faith, we must keep them with our good deeds (James 2:14). With the Christmas Joy Offering we make two enduring promises for our Faith: to assist church workers in their time of need, and to educate and develop the future racial and ethnic leadership of our church.

The offering will be collected on Sunday, December 22, 2018

Let Us Share in the Joy of a Promise!

Each year on Christmas we decorate our sanctuary with beautiful red Poinsettias. These flowers can be dedicated “In honor of” or “In loving memory of” a loved one for a cost of $8.50 per plant. The Poinsettias will be delivered fresh to the church on the Sunday before Christmas and will be available for you to take home after Christmas Day worship service on December 25.

If you wish to place a Poinsettia in memory or in honor of a loved one, please complete the form below and return it to the church office with your $8.50 payment no later than Sunday, December 1, 2019. Please make all checks payable to Presbyterian Church of Livingston. Thank you.

Roundtable Discussion

Our Roundtable discussion begins Wednesday, September 11, at 10:30 AM. The study will deal with the Book of Isaiah. This six week course will focus on Do Not Be afraid, which will focus on chapters 40-55. Hear the word of the Lord to Jewish exiles in Babylon after the collapse of all that they had known. The prophet speaks of God’s grace offered in response to the people’s pain and lament. The class will meet in the church lounge by Pastor’s office.  Let Pastor know if you would like to participate.

The Bible and Bagels class meets on Saturday at 8:30 am, in the church lounge. The class uses the scripture passage that will be preached on Sunday. Bagels, muffins, and coffee are served to aid in our discussion.

If you have any questions on these Bible study opportunities, please contact Pastor Dan.

Church school will resume in September. Please stay tuned to the bulletin and PCL at a Glance for specific dates and time. We will gather in solidarity with those who are suffering and disillusioned in a broken and war-torn world. On this day we will proclaim God’s grand vision for peace and justice. During the offering time we will be invited to give generously to the peacemaking offering.

The Taiwanese congregation will join us for a combined service with a luncheon to follow.
